Is Storm Front by Jim Butcher worth reading? | BOOK REVIEW (NON-SPOILER)
Storm Front by Jim Butcher is the first book in the well-known and well-loved urban fantasy series, The Dresden Files. It has the feel of a noir fiction and follows Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden the only wizard PI of Chicago. I have heard good things about this series on Youtube and have been wanting to try it for some time. When the chance came in the form of a buddy read for the series, I jumped at the opportunity to dive right in.

Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh is a legal thriller, courtroom drama, and murder mystery all rolled into an exceptionally clever story. The synopsis mentioned serial killers and I was invested. I have read a couple of serial killer stories and have enjoyed them a lot. All of them were thrillers and had the investigative angle to them. This one is not that different either. We follow two POVs one of an ex-con turned defense lawyer Eddie Flynn and the other of Kane, the serial killer.

The Imposter by Anna Wharton is a psychological thriller that tells the story of a young woman Chloe. Chloe works as a newspaper archivist and cares for her nan. Her life has become difficult with her nan starting to forget her present and seems to be stuck in her past. While things might be difficult at home, Chloe enjoys her work and loves reading about different people's lives as she collects the newspaper clippings. One story, in particular, catches her eye and she seems to have trouble letting go of the story. She starts to get obsessed over the story and goes on to make decisions to uncover the truth…

Daughters Of Night by Laura Shepherd-Robinson is a dark historical murder/mystery/thriller set in 1780's England. I recently found out after reading the book, that this actually has characters from her previous book Blood & Sugar. We are following Caroline Corsham, a wealthy woman who is determined to find the identity of the murderer of Lady Lucy Loveless. Initially, upon discovering the brutally attacked woman, Caro realizes the Lady's attack was planned, and before she could get answers, Lucy dies in Caro's arms. Hyde by Craig Russel is a police procedural style story that follows Captain Hyde who is investigating an unusual murder that resembles the three-fold death from the Celtic tales. The story is an intriguing take on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and talks about the duality of the nature of man, the good and the evil, and with RL Stevenson appearing in both the prologue and epilogue was quite interesting to read. Hyde is a gothic horror story that is steeped in Celtic folklore and tales that creates a haunting atmospheric setting and is quite fascinating.

I have loved reading anthologies in the past, and so when I saw this title on the Blackthorn Book Tours website, I knew I needed to sign up for this one. This is an anthology of 13 thriller/mystery/suspense short stories compiled together to give us a wonderful collection of quick page-turners. All the stories were engaging, and I found them to be very much enjoyable.
