BOOK RECOMMENDATION,  TOP 5 FAVORITES

TOP 5 OF MY FAVORITE CHILDREN’S & MIDDLE GRADE BOOKS OF 2020

In the year 2020, I read a few children’s / middle-grade books. Some of these were of the non-fiction genre. I absolutely loved the books in these genre, because these books were created in such a fun & interactive way that you will pick them up for your kids – that’s for sure! These books are the best way to introduce your kids to non-fiction, and I highly recommend getting these books. One of my other favorite is a heart touching story about a young family’s plight in the detention center. This one is more suited for YA, because of the heaviness of the topic, but it features middle-grade characters and is a wonderfully written story. It wasn’t that hard for me to pick these up. I highly recommend these books if you are looking for book recommendations for your young ones. Also, I haven’t seen any of these talked about. Let’s show these books some much needed love and support!!

It’s a beautiful book with cute illustrations and a simple story to get your kids introduced to really inspiring personalities. I really enjoyed the book and I believe this is a great starting point for non-fiction for young readers. The book is very short focusing only on the important events of Astrid Lindgren’s life. Her life as a child and how she came to write stories and her first job are all well put together to bring to life her legacy in a way that’s easily understood by kids. The language is simply easy to read and enjoy. We get a brief idea of who she is and how she came to be an author and one of the most loved creators for her character Pippi Longstocking and some small tidbits about her life as well. They have a variety of stories featuring amazing personalities with inspiring stories from all over the world. The wide array of books they have gives us an amazing list of books to choose from and. stories of extraordinary people with incredible journeys that will inspire and empower young minds. Her story is inspiring and empowering and is made accessible to kids with the accompaniment of games, puzzles, toys and such. Santiago’s story will move you and also make you feel hopeful for the young protagonist. It was an emotional roller coaster of a read and often times the situations described in the book made it hard to read through at a stretch without getting angry and emotional on behalf of young Santi. The book is well researched and I love how well the author handled such a sensitive topic. The situation of people in the detention centers is awful and alarming. I fear for the kids who go through the situations and I worry about the lasting impact of life inside the center. I can’t imagine the pain and struggle they face day in day out because of the officials who work at these centers. I believe this book is an eye-opening realistic account of what life is like for people who get detained by the officials at the border and forced to live separately from families in the immigration centers. I was engrossed entirely by the story of young Santi, and I couldn’t put the book down. It is a fast-paced, hard-hitting, compelling story of life inside the detention centers. I believe everyone should read it despite it being a middle-grade book. I highly highly recommend it. Make sure to check this book out.

I had a lot of fun reading this book. The lores, myths, and mythical creatures from around the world are brought to us in its simplistic form and is very much informative and engaging. The history of the different cultural myths and the stories passed down from different generations are also very well explained. Some of the magical beasts are familiar to me from different fantasy books, while a lot of them were new. I am so happy that I finally got this book and this helped me understand the origins of these myths, folklores, and the beasts. This was so much fun!! While this book is geared for Middle Grade I do believe this will be equally liked by age groups higher than that as well. This is for everyone who loves mythology, mythical and fantastical beasts that inhabit different countries based on their culture. You will be able to learn more about the origins of some of the well known fantastical creatures along with amazing illustrations. It is also a short read and quick to get through.

Let me know your thoughts on your favorite children’s books. What were the books that got you into reading? I would love to hear about the books you loved as a child. Mine was Enid Blyton’s Famous Five and Secret Seven. There were a delight to read and all the adventures I had in my head were just amazing.
